I Became the Villainess, But My Beast Husbands Can Hear My Mind?!

Chapter 270: The Quiet Storm (2)

Chapter 270: The Quiet Storm (2)

Calen immediately stopped moving his hand. "Oh." He stayed quiet for exactly three seconds before asking, "Then what should I do?"

Roxanna let out a helpless laugh. "Can’t you just sit still?"

"That sounds difficult."

"I can see that."

Roxanna let out a soft sigh before finally asking, "Have you ever interacted with the Sky Tribe before? The ground one."

Now that there was finally something interesting to talk about, Calen answered right away, looking much more energetic than before.

"Not really," he admitted. "But sometimes, I used to see Carla walking around with Harlan near the river close to our tribe."

Roxanna nodded slowly. From the memories she inherited, she remembered that the evil Roxanna often saw Harlan around that river as well.

"But doesn’t that river also lead to their tribe?" she asked curiously.

"Yeah," Calen replied. "Honestly, it’s kind of strange. The Vixeria Tribe never officially had a cold war with the Sky Tribe, but sometimes their people would still come around this area."

He shrugged lightly. "We don’t own the river, after all, but usually, tribes just ignore each other so fights won’t happen by accident."

Then Calen suddenly snorted in amusement.

"But back then, I didn’t really care about things like that." He grinned shamelessly. "Besides, it was honestly pretty satisfying to watch the evil Roxanna get scolded by the beastwomen from the Sky Tribe because she kept flirting with their husbands."

Calen had been smiling and laughing a moment ago, but the moment he remembered that his wife now lived inside the evil Roxanna’s body, his expression quickly changed.

"But now," he said, "I don’t like it when they come after you."

Roxanna gave him a small smile. "It’s not like I’m going to run around seducing other people’s husbands like the evil Roxanna did."

After saying that, she became silent for a moment, trying to sort through all the information Calen had just told her.

Honestly, she had felt that something about the situation was strange before too. But back then, Carla seemed kind and harmless, so Roxanna never thought too deeply about it.

"Were they actually spying on our tribe too?" Roxanna suddenly asked after coming to a realization.

Calen frowned slightly. "But our tribe wasn’t even doing that well back then..." Then his eyes suddenly widened. "Oh, Cyrus!"

Roxanna immediately looked at him.

Calen said slowly, "Maybe... one of them married a female from the land-version Sky Tribe because they also wanted to spy on Cyrus."

He looked like he wanted to continue speaking, but suddenly, his face darkened after realizing something else.

"Wife..." His voice became quieter. "Do you think... that marriage happened because... they wanted to hunt Cyrus in the first place?"

Roxanna frowned deeply. "But why?" she asked in confusion. "Wouldn’t it make more sense for them to try taking over the Sky Tribe instead of hunting Cyrus?"

Calen lowered his gaze for a moment before speaking again. "Maybe Cyrus himself is more important than the tribe."

Roxanna immediately fell silent.

The night breeze brushed past them softly, but somehow, the atmosphere suddenly felt much heavier than before.

"It still doesn’t make much sense..." Roxanna murmured.

Cyrus was indeed strong, maybe too strong for a little birdie. "But wouldn’t the eagle beastkins be stronger than him?"

Calen scratched the side of his neck before muttering, "That’s true, but... strength isn’t always the only thing people care about."

Roxanna frowned slightly. "What do you mean?"

"I don’t know." Calen leaned back against the wooden pillar behind him. "It’s just a feeling."

Roxanna lowered her gaze.

Cyrus was strong, very strong. Even she could tell that much despite only knowing him for a short time. But compared to giant eagle beastkins, his body looked much smaller and leaner.

So why were they so obsessed with him?

"Unless," Roxanna suddenly muttered.

Calen immediately looked at her. "Unless what?"

Roxanna slowly lifted her head. "Unless they weren’t hunting him because of his physical strength."

Calen blinked. "Then because of what?"

Roxanna fell silent again. Honestly, she didn’t know, but the more she thought about it, the stranger everything felt.

The way they kept dragging Cyrus back.

The way they broke his wings over and over again.

The way they refused to let him go no matter how many times he escaped.

It almost felt less like punishment, and more like possession, as if they believed Cyrus belonged to them.

Maybe there was still something she didn’t know about Cyrus.

After all, there were times when Roxanna felt like he was hiding something from her. Not in a bad way, but more like there were parts of himself he simply refused to talk about.

She wanted to think about it more deeply, but suddenly, she noticed a figure running toward their hut from afar.

Roxanna immediately narrowed her eyes, trying to see more clearly through the darkness of the night.

The closer the person got, the more familiar he looked.

"Jarva?" Roxanna called out in confusion. "Why did he come back alone?"

Her heart suddenly tightened. "Where are Zeir and Luan?"

Roxanna quickly jumped down from the terrace, with Calen following right behind her.

"Hey! Hey!" Jarva shouted loudly while running toward them from a distance. His breathing sounded rough, and panic was clear on his face. "Something dangerous is coming!"

Roxanna’s heart immediately sank. "Your husbands are trying to stop them!" Jarva continued anxiously. "But those birds are coming here!"

Jarva’s panicked shouting immediately made Cyrus and Azul rush out of the hut.

Even though Jarva still hadn’t explained everything clearly, the tense atmosphere alone was enough for all of them to realize that something bad was about to happen.

"Calen!" Cyrus called out sharply. "Warn the villagers and tell them to prepare for a fight!"

Without wasting another second, he continued, "I’ll get the weapons and the poisons."

Then he quickly turned toward Azul and Roxanna. "You two need to evacuate the children and the people who can’t fight."

Azul frowned deeply. "There’s not enough time," he said seriously. "I don’t think we’ll be able to get far from the tribe before they arrive."

Roxanna took a deep breath before speaking. "We can let them hide underground," she said seriously, "but I don’t think they’ll be safe if I, the leader of this tribe, hide there with them too."

After all, the first thing invaders usually did was search for the tribe leader, even if they had to tear apart the entire place to find them.
